about me

After obtaining a diploma in Fine Art at Wimbledon Art School, Imogen then studied under Rosie Sanders and at RHS Wisley focusing on botanical drawings. In 2003 Imogen enrolled at Charles Cecil Studios in Florence, Italy, learning the importance of drawing and painting from life with natural light using a technique called sight size. Famous traditional artists used this method, her favourite being the incredible painter John Singer Sargent.

After three years intensive training Imogen moved back to the UK where she applied her artistic skills to the world of animals following a commission of a dog portrait which she thoroughly enjoyed. Word spread and she quickly became inundated with requests for commissions predominantly of dogs but also of sheep, cows, horses, cats and a ram! Imogen found herself driving round the country photographing people's pets and whilst travelling to and from commissions Imogen would pop into any farm she'd pass and photograph their farm animals.

"Nothing is more exciting than taking a photo of an animal and knowing it'd be the perfect one to draw from"

Imogen has now developed into one of the UK's leading animal artists focusing on quintessential British farm life and country scenes.

Previous commissions include drawing the 2009, 2011 and this year's Christmas card for the Countryside Alliance. Imogen drew the Irish Wolfhound Conmael, the mascot for The Irish Guards, the portrait of the chairman of Harrogate’s Royal Hall Restoration Trust and has previously exhibited in galleries throughout the country including the Kennel Club Gallery, the Animal Art Fair, Country Life Fair, CLA Game Fair, Burghley, W.H Patterson in Beauchamp Place, and in November 2013 had a successful first solo show in Chelsea.

I can’t thank you enough for the beautiful drawing you have done of Rosie.  I was completely overwhelmed seeing it (as you may have gathered), as it was as if she was in the room again, the picture was so life-like.

Thank you so much for the beautiful pastel drawing of Bramble, especially as you were unable to meet her. You have really captured the essence of ther character and aslo the little curl on the back of her neck curled differently to the rest of her fur. Mum is thrilled with her present and she is going to hang Brambles portrait in her bedroom.

I have been been living with John Constable's Donkey for the last week, and your copy. I am very pleased indeed. You have captured the picture and the brush strokes so well and I will happily live with your image into the future.

I just wanted to let you know that James was absolutely blown away by Jester's picture - I knew he would be impressed, but, as he paid for it, I really wanted him to be delighted and he certainly was!

Thank you so much - we are both absolutely thrilled, and are now thinking about when we can save up for you to do Sabre!

Once I had framed Benji I decided to wait until Christmas to present him to the family as a gift, not an easy thing keeping him as a secret for all those months. But it was worth it as everyone loves your creation and they can't believe it is not a photograph, the likeness is so real. He is now in pride of place at the top of our stairs where he watches our every move! So thank you so so much for bringing Benji to life on our walls!

Nigel absolutely loves the picture !  So it is a great success, thank you so much !!  Mind you yesterday I heard him talking very severly to Bella and telling her that he was turning her portrait to the wall as she had just dug a huge hole in the middle of his immaculate lawn !

Just a quick note to say thank you very much indeed for the superb portrait of Crumble.  James is absolutely thrilled and has already been planning how to frame it and where to hang it to show it off to its best - a definite hit! We are also looking forward to seeing her on the website!
